Montego Bay

Montego Bay is a world famous tourist attraction as well being the capital of the St. James Parish. Kingston is the only city on Jamaica larger than Montego Bay. People flock to Montego Bay for the tax free shopping, Doctorís Cave beach, and beautiful mountains shadowing the city. Montego Bay is also a popular dock for cruise ships.

Montego Bay can be categorized into three sections. The city center covers a portion of the city. The second section composes the area of town catering to tourists, made up of hotels, restaurants, bars, and the Doctorís Cave Beach. The third section contains more hotels located on the beach.

Montego Bay is full of excitement and life. People from rural regions amass in the markets and other downtown businesses. Tourists flock to stores and other markets where handcrafted goods are sold. Children can be seen playing on the streets, and locals mingle with foreigners visiting Jamaica.

Montego Bay is the most popular tourist city on the island. More hotels, and transportation and tourism related services are located on Montego Bay than other regions of Jamaica. The weather is warm year round, with peak tourism months ranging from November to April. During the hurricane season, tourists will usually pay less for their trip to Montego Bay.

Most large hotels found on Montego Bay are usually a part of a major resort, Sandals being an example. Often, tourists can find reasonable rates to stay at one of these resorts. Higher end resorts, such as the Round Hill, will be a lot more expensive to stay at, but visitors will enjoy more luxurious accommodations. Tourists can participate in all types of recreational activities on Montego Bay, including golf, tennis, cycling, water activities, shopping, and many more. Those interested in visiting Montego Bay can contact the Jamaica Tourist Board at 1-800-JAMAICA.

Many hotels provide guests with concierge services. This way, tourists can schedule day trips to the popular attractions of the region. Among the popular sites are the Dunnís River Falls, pineapple farms, and a famous rum distillery. For those that love the water, it is possible to ride on a ship with a glass floor to observe the tropical fish, scuba dive, or rent a catamaran.

Montego Bay is a great place to relax and have fun. There is something for everyone on this Caribbean paradise.
